General History of the Car

Purchased from gentleman in North Carolina. He bought the car in 1974, becoming the second owner. Car originally imported from England by the first owner. The Sp-250 was known in England as the “Dart” but could not be marketed that way here since Chrysler was already using the name. This was one of the early fiberglass bodies bolted on to a steel boxed frame. Although not a well known car because few were imported to the U.S., they developed a loyal following. I can remember them racing successfully in “D” production in the 1960’s at the old Thompson Race Track in Conn. and also at Limerock. I believe the driver of one of the fastest was Harry Carter. He used to drive his with one hand on the wheel and the other on top of the door. This car supposedly clocked at 0 to 60 in the 8 second range and only the Jag XK150 was its equal in power in the moderate price range. This car has not become as collectible as the Healeys or Jags but it is just as much fun and a real eye-popper. These cars should appreciate very well over the next few years with only around 2600 being produced. It should also be noted that Jaguar bought out British Daimler early in this car's production and this power plant could also be found in some of the Jaguar sedans of that era badged as Daimlers.
