Purchased from gentleman in N.C. who says it really is the original mileage. The major work to be done on the car has just been completed within the last year. The previous owner states that,” brand new clutch (brand new!), all of the belts have been replaced this past year, a brand new ice cold air conditioning system, brand new tires”. A very nice driver. A very clean car. This was one of the early Mondials but equipped with fuel injection instead of carburetors. Engine The Mondial 8's engine was an all alloy 90° V8. The cylinder liners were shrunk-in cast iron. Connecting rods were paired and balanced with the pistons and five main bearing crankshaft. The compression ratio was 8.8:1. Two valves per cylinder were actuated by dual overhead camshafts. Exhaust was by large diameter manifolds with a tuned system. Fuel was metered by Bosch K-Jetronic and digital electronic ignition was Magneti Marelli. Cooling was by a front mounted radiator. Power was rated at 205bhp at 6600rpm. Torque was above 178lb/ft at 5000rpm. The Mondial 8 weighed 3496lbs dry in US trim. Drive Train The transmission in all Mondial models from 1980 to 1989 was a five forward and single reverse gear, all synchromesh unit. Mounted transversely like the engine, the transmission received power through a single plate hydraulic clutch, a limited slip differential, and solid driveshafts with constant velocity joints. Chassis The Mondial's body was formed mostly from steel, with aluminum employed to lighten the front hood and rear deck of the 8.The Mondial's main chassis was formed of square and rectangular section steel tubing, welded and cross braced to provide great strength and rigidity with a low weight penalty. The Mondial was the first road car to employ Ferrari's race-derived removable rear sub-frame attached to flanges extending rearward from the cabin. This tube-steel rear subframe carried the engine, transmission, differential and rear suspension. This made the running gear a virtually closed system that could be separated from the car, and had the added advantage of providing a second frame to the mid-rear section of the car. The design proved extremely successful on the Mondial and eventually became standard Ferrari practice on mid-engined road cars. The Mondial's suspension followed the successful model of the 308 with coil springs over Koni shock absorbers, located at all four corners by dual unequal length wishbones. Front and rear anti-roll bars were provided to improve cornering. In keeping with its purpose as a luxury touring car, and due to its greater weight, the Mondial was given a softer suspension than its two-seat counterparts. Combined with its stretched wheelbase, the suspension bestows upon the Mondial an extremely stable and supple but controlled ride Steering was by rack and pinion, with slower and easier ratios than the two-seat cars. Brakes Fine, braking is by power assisted twin piston calipers acting on vented discs. Front and rear brakes are controlled by separate circuits, providing security through redundancy.
Wheels Fine, wheels on the Mondial 8 were metric sized 18TR390 front and rear, carrying 240/55 VR390 tires. The tires on this car are practically new. - Paint: Fine
